Floor Lamp – Star Model

Originally designed by Giacometti and used by Jean-Michel Frank in his pure interiors, this is an ode to both artists' work. The forged-iron base with recognizable star and patinated finish is a timeless, minimalist piece designed by Giacometti circa 1935.

Jean-Michel Frank discovered Giacometti’s work through Man Ray:

“A passionate mind attracted to the intellectual and artistic avant-garde, the interior designer mingled with the Surrealists and struck up a friendship with Man Ray. Through the latter, he discovered Alberto Giacometti’s works while visiting the Salon des Indépendants. At the time, plaster low-reliefs such as L’Albatros and Le Grand Poisson by the sculptor were photographed in a decor and published in the American magazine Harper’s Bazaar.

Eager to introduce surrealist elements into his interiors, Jean-Michel Frank first selected pieces from the sculptor’s contemporary production before commissioning various accessories and objects (vases, firedogs, lamps, floor lamps, wall lights, fireplaces, candlesticks...) made especially for his interiors, as he was drawn to the simplicity of Alberto’s creations. Assisted by his brother in preparing the moulds, tempering the plaster, and polishing the bronze, ...”
