Robert Mallet-Stevens - Set of 4 Chairs

€6,500.00

You might already know that we are kind of obsessed with archetypes. When it comes to chairs, this might be the most accurate example. Designed by Robert Mallet-Stevens, this chair could have been drawn by a young child, and we mean that as a compliment. Erased almost anything non-functional, stripped back to the bare minimum. The only decorative element on the chair would be the back supports.

This Robert Mallet-Stevens chair is a tubular-steel design from the late 1920s, created for his modernist architectural interiors. The early chairs were usually produced specifically for a certain project. It has a rectilinear frame, minimal ornamentation, and the bare minimum in materials. It shows a transition between Art Deco and European modernism.

The patina on this set is just to die for. Each colour tells a story of another mood, season or colour trend, from the 1930s till now. Produced by Tubor. We have paired it up with a Pierre Jeanneret cafeteria table, giving it a raw but still refined vibe to the set, ready to stage your Tribeca home.

Examples of this chair are to be found in the collection of: Centre Pompidou (Paris), Vitra Design Museum (Weil am Rhein), Museum of Modern Art (MoMA NYC) and the Art Institute of Chicago.

Designed and made in France, circa 1930.
Provenance: Private Collection Paris.
Shows wear consistent with age. In good vintage condition.

Overall dimensions:
Height: ± 83 cm
Width: ± 39 cm
Depth: ± 39 cm
